Do Mosquitoes Spread COVID-19?

In times like these it seems that fear and worry are the number one things on people’s minds. Fear of Coronavirus. Fear of being alone. Fear of being stranded without the necessary essentials. Fear of not having money for your mortgage, rent, or food. Fear of getting sick and dying.

So we wanted to start this post with some VERY good news. Jesus is in control and he has told us not to fear. In fact, the Bible has more than 40 different verses that specifically state “Fear not!” or "Do not fear." If we stick together, if we work together as a community, we will survive this crisis and be stronger than before.

One of the fears we’ve seen a lot of over the past couple of weeks is the fear that mosquitoes carry COVID-19. Let us assure you, nothing could be further from the truth.

Respiratory vs Bloodborne

Coronavirus is what’s known as a respiratory disease. That means it affects our lungs and is transmitted via oral or sinus fluids – or in this case, droplets. The virus spreads from person to person if you have close contact with an infected person – breathing their same air. It also spreads when you make contact with these droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze. And by touching a surface where these droplets have landed, from a cough or a sneeze, you can accidentally transfer them into your system.

This is why masks, gloves and strict personal hygiene are so important right now. And if you do need to cough or sneeze, please use the inside of your elbow to limit the droplets spread – regardless of whether or not you’re infected.

Mosquitoes only spread bloodborne pathogens. Things like the Zika virus, dengue fever and Malaria. But as we know, those diseases are no laughing matter. Coronavirus and its much tamer version SARS, have accounted for approximately 16,000 deaths worldwide, at the time of this posting (click the link for the latest numbers). Malaria alone kills an average of 500 thousand people each year, every year.

Being Cautious, Not Fearful

The best way to combat Coronavirus is being careful. Wash your hands often with soap and water. Avoid touching your eyes, nose & mouth. Cover coughs or sneezes with tissues or an elbow. Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces often. Practice social distancing.

And, please don’t panic.

The symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, coughing, sore throat and shortness of breath. If you think you are infected, isolate yourself. One of the reasons the virus spread so quickly in the past few weeks is because symptoms don’t always show up until 2-14 days after exposure.

Right now, our technicians are only servicing the outside of homes and businesses, unless there is a health hazard like bedbugs, fire ants, fleas and ticks. For the latest on what we’re doing to protect our family of employees and customers, check out our coronavirus information center.

If you’re going to be spending time in your yard, enjoying our warmer weather or working from home, the mosquitoes are biting. And while they don’t carry COVID-19, you don’t want anything else they might have picked up.

We’ve made it easy to protect yourself with our exclusive No Bite Zones technology, now available at retail prices. Turn biting mosquitoes into vegans! Just go to our website, place an order, and, if you’re within our service area, we’ll deliver it to you! We can even do a no-contact drop off, if that would make you feel safer.

Thanks for standing with Good News Pest Solutions during this global pandemic. Before we know it, we’ll be looking back, as we usually do, wondering what we were so worried about. But for now, please stay safe.
