Identifying Bee Hives and Wasp Nests on Your Property
Locating nests early, before colonies reach their peak size and aggression levels, can prevent dangerous encounters and make removal significantly easier. Different species build distinctive structures in predictable locations around your home and yard.

- Paper wasp nests. These umbrella-shaped nests hang from a single stalk and feature exposed hexagonal cells. Look for them under eaves, porch ceilings, door frames, and inside grills or outdoor furniture.
- Yellowjacket nests. Often built underground in abandoned rodent burrows or within wall voids, these enclosed nests can house thousands of aggressive wasps. Watch for multiple insects entering and exiting a single hole in the ground or exterior walls.
