Our Comprehensive Approach to Cockroach Control

Successful cockroach elimination requires a multi-layered strategy that goes far beyond simply spraying pesticides. At Good News Pest Solutions, we begin every treatment with a thorough inspection to identify the species involved, locate harborage areas, and determine what's attracting roaches to your property. Our approach combines non-chemical methods with targeted applications that deliver lasting results.

Sanitation and exclusion form the foundation of our strategy. We’ll help you identify and eliminate food and water sources that sustain cockroach populations, recommend proper food storage practices, and advise on removing cardboard boxes and clutter where roaches hide during daylight hours. Sealing cracks, gaps, and entry points around doors, windows, pipes, and utility lines prevents outdoor species from invading your home while denying indoor species access to wall voids and other protected harborage sites.

Our treatment protocol incorporates residual applications in harborage areas and perimeter barriers that intercept roaches before they enter living spaces. We utilize advanced baiting systems featuring formulations that roaches readily consume and carry back to their hiding spots, eliminating entire populations, including those that have developed resistance to traditional treatments. For severe infestations, we may incorporate growth regulators that disrupt reproduction cycles, preventing nymphs from reaching maturity and effectively sterilizing the colony over time. Monitoring stations and follow-up inspections allow us to track treatment effectiveness and adjust our approach as needed, providing you with long-term relief from these persistent pests.

Florida's Most Common Cockroach Species

Southwest Florida's warm, humid climate supports numerous cockroach species, each with distinct preferences and behaviors that influence treatment strategies.

Good News Pest Solutions is ready to help customers deal with:

  • German cockroaches. The most problematic indoor species, these small, tan roaches with two dark stripes thrive in kitchens and bathrooms where moisture and food are abundant. They reproduce rapidly and have developed resistance to many conventional treatments.
  • Brownbanded cockroaches. Smaller than German roaches with distinctive light brown bands across their wings, these insects prefer warm, dry areas and often infest bedrooms, living rooms, and electronics.
  • Asian cockroaches. Nearly identical to German roaches but attracted to lights and capable of flight, these outdoor roaches swarm around windows and doors at dusk, sometimes entering homes in large numbers.
  • American cockroaches. Florida's largest roaches, these reddish-brown insects prefer damp areas like sewers, basements, and crawl spaces but will invade kitchens and bathrooms seeking food and water.
  • Smokeybrown cockroaches. Dark brown to black with a glossy appearance, these strong fliers inhabit tree canopies, gutters, and attics, often entering homes through roof vents and gaps in soffits.
  • Australian cockroaches. Similar in size to American roaches but with distinctive yellow markings on the thorax, they prefer outdoor vegetation but will move indoors during dry periods.
  • Oriental cockroaches. Sometimes called "water bugs," these dark, sluggish roaches inhabit damp basements, crawl spaces, and drains, emitting a distinctive musty odor.
  • Florida woods cockroaches. Large, dark roaches that live in leaf litter and woodpiles, occasionally wandering indoors but unable to establish breeding populations inside structures.
  • Surinam cockroaches. Burrowing roaches are commonly found in mulch, potted plants, and gardens, and while they rarely become indoor pests, they can damage plant roots.
  • Cuban cockroaches. Light green outdoor roaches that feed on plant material and are strongly attracted to lights, sometimes entering homes but preferring to remain outside.

Accurate identification determines which treatment methods will be most effective for your specific infestation.
